Nose to the Grindstone

Paloma says...

I am straight-up plowing through work today, and totally wishing I were in sweatpants instead of a pencil skirt.  Sometimes a cute outfit is just wasted on an ordinary day stuck behind a desk.

Shirt: J.Crew / Cardigan: J.Crew / Skirt: Target
Shoes: Nine West / Necklace: gift (slab of turquoise from my beloved New Mexico)

Stitch Fixed part deux

Paloma says...

Featuring a piece from my recent Stitch Fix today - this is actually the second time I wore this shirt but I didn't blog it last time.

I definitely love this shirt, but the pictures here definitely don't do it justice. Its got hidden buttons and a fun pattern, with a fishtail hem so it looks great un-tucked.  Its something I would never have picked for myself, which is exactly why I tried Stitch Fix in the first place!  In fact, everything I got in my "fix" I LOVED (two pairs of jeans, three shirts) but most of the sizes were too big, so I only kept two tops.  And there is no exchanging for a different size -- if you don't like it, you return it. The end. At first this bummed me out, but I think my wallet was happy about it. Just make sure you change your sizing if necessary for your next "fix"!

Shirt: Stitch Fix / Jeans: J.Crew / Cardigan: J.Crew / Shoes: Target

I am getting another "fix" in May - will post a full review!

Lawyerin'

Paloma says...

Simple in a suit today for court this morning where I did some serious lawyerin' (kidding, it was entirely uneventful as court frequently is, much to the dismay of L.A. Law lovers).  Then worked the ensemble without the jacket for the rest of the work day. Easy peasy.

Looking easy and casual, but one quick addition, and voila....serious business.

Back to Drab

Karen says...

Paloma is right.  Cold and windy today, so a day for grays.  After two days of wearing bright coral, I was prepared to take it back to drab.

Top: Banana Republic
Cardigan: Club Monaco
Skirt: Martin + Osa (old!)
Shoes: Sole Society
Purse: Vintage Coach

It's my white peplum top, peplum hidden under the cardy.  We walked out to Nokia Live for lunch today at SmashBurger, and it was comical all the way walking against strong gales of wind.  That same gale, however, comes in quite handy for wistful photo-taking.

Feeling Fancy

Paloma says...

I got so many "you look fancy!" comments today. Makes me wonder if normally I look frumpy?

Sweater: Native boutique in Eagle Rock
Dress: Old Navy (2008 - click here for the 2014 version that I might have to buy at 40% off today!)
Necklace: Target

Also, my stance in this pic is weird-awkward.  But I have been crazy-freaking-busy at work (what else is new) and taking a picture was just not working out today, so after 20 attempts, I gave up and just picked the best of the bunch. Which ain't saying much.

On another note - it feels like winter in LA!  I was too cold to go bare-legged today.  WTF?!

Stitch Fixed

Karen says...

Boy, did I want to meet up with Paloma today for a pic, but we're both too slammed at the office.  We're both feeling very motivated after swapping looks and ideas with MK of Outfit Posts.  It's been a favorite blog of Paloma's for some time (as she is ever resourceful and fashion forward), and now I'm scouring it like Pinterest for additional looks.

And even more awesomeness coming into my life, courtesy of Paloma, is Stitch Fix!  I got my first fix in the mail yesterday and just love the looks Noemi prepared for me.  Although I already own a striped dress or two, this one fit like a glove and the scalloped pattern is bright twist.  Top that off with my new orange heels, and I'm in werkwear heaven.

Dress: Eight Sixty courtesy of Stitch Fix / Cardigan: Charlotte Tarantola
Shoes: Nine West / Necklace: Forever 21

Many thanks to Vi, today, who I dragged into a corner conference room for these snaps!

Gray Day Florals

Paloma says...

Oh Los Angeles weather, you confuse me so. After months of temps in the 70's and 80's, it is a lovely gray and cool 60-degree day that seems more like January and less like almost-April.  Winter is finally here!  Er... wait.

Sweater: J.Crew (similar-ish) / Tee: Target / Pants: The Limited
Shoes: Sole Society (similar) (and for TONS more moola) / Necklace: The Limited (similar)

What better way to celebrate a gray cold day than with some floral?  I love this cardigan because it's floral but not spring-y.  Love the earth-tones with a bit of bright red.  And always, always always my Sole Society faux-Valentino shoes.

Humble in Stripes

Paloma says...

First, I just want to give a shout out to one of my personal favorite blogs, Outfit Posts, and the lovely creator who used one of my recent outfits as inspiration for her outfit post today.  This here little blog of ours was just intended a fun project for Karen and me, mostly for ourselves, but very much inspired by the "real" fashion bloggers like MK.  So to get recognition like that from someone whose blog I have long admired is seriously humbling.  Also crazy to see our page views spike like never before - wild!  Thanks, MK!!

On to the (unfortunately quite predictable) outfit...

Sweater: J.Crew / Pants: The Limited / Shoes: Sole Society / Necklace: Forever 21

I think if I am wearing black, white, gray and stripes (which is a lot - see Exhibit A, B, and C), I pretty much ALWAYS reach for red shoes.  It's like an automatic reaction.  But hey, if it ain't broke!

My Nod to Coral

Karen says...

Paloma had a coral moment, and now, here is mine:

Blouse: Halogen / Cardigan: Barneys New York / Skirt: H&M
Necklace: J.Crew Factory / Shoes: Sole Society

I walked down the hall here and my co-worker came by later to comment that he had seen something bright whisk past his office.  Yes, a bit bright for Monday, but if not now... when?  I am embracing spring with pastels and brights and a neutral animal print thrown in for good measure!

Best Jeans Ever

Paloma says...

Work is busy as hell and today I was tempted not to blog - in large part because this outfit is FAR from interesting or even really cute.  But, my beloved Maggie has not forgotten my promise, over a month ago, to feature The Best Jeans Ever (a.k.a. J.Crew's "Matchstick" jeans) here on the blog.

So - without further ado...

Shirt: The Limited / Jeans: J.Crew / Shoes: Banana Republic /
Cardigan: Target / Necklace: Urban Oufitters

Truth be told, as much as I love these jeans, I do wish they were a smidge shorter.  I love the straight (as opposed to skinny) fit, but don't like the bunching at the ankles.

Blue Suede Shoes

Paloma says...

Blouse: Gap / Skirt: The Limited / Sweater: Old Navy / Shoes: Sole Society

OK, so I think my outfit is pretty darn boring, my hair looks awful, and I couldn't get a decent picture to save my life (probably because of the latter).  HOWEVER.  What is truly important about this outfit is THE SHOES.  I love them.  Been lusting for blue suede shoes forever - or at least since I first saw them on Karen (note: I just realized that Karen said basically the same thing - while wearing a very similar outfit to this - when her blue suede shoes first appeared here), and today was the day.  Hurrah!  Also, yet another shout out to Sole Society, for consistently keeping my feet looking cute.

Some Things Old, Some Things New

We're mixing reliable standbys and new pieces today!

Shirt: H&M / Blazer: Heavenly Couture / Skirt: Forever 21 / Shoes: Nine West
Bag: Vintage Coach / Sunglasses: Vintage Christian Dior

Karen says...

Everything old is new again!  I pulled some forgotten cheapo items out of my closet to match it with a new blue and white striped blouse that I think is totally multi-purpose.  Plus, I have been enjoying a nautical kick lately, everything is blue and white or with an anchor on it.

Also, I hunted high and low for my vintage Coach purse.  It started with noticing that some version of this was in all the New York consignment shops; it deepened when I saw a well-dressed girl sporting the bag as a crossbody at Hinoki & the Bird.  A few clicks on eBay and $50 later, a previously loved bag is my new fashion piece.  Top that off with the vintage Dior shades, and it's a complete mix of old and new.

Dress: J.Crew / Sweater: H&M / Shoes: Jessica Simpson / Bag: Coach / Earrings: gift

Paloma said...

Once again, the realities of practicing law and just generally being busy have gotten in the way of my blogging! ;)  Anyway, I have been wearing very lackluster ensembles lately because taking pictures of my clothes has just not seemed interesting, but was very happy that Karen and I got to meet up for fast Mexican, gossip, and a quick photo.  Also happy that I was wearing my new (and best ever) LBD.  I foresee a beautiful future with this dress, which fits perfectly, is comfortable, flattering, and just all around great. Oh, J.Crew - you always do me right.

Animal Instincts

Paloma says...

Yep, I'm still here!

Blouse: Express / Skirt: Forever 21 / Cardigan: The Limited / Shoes: Enzo Angiolini

I was staunchly against animal print for years and years.  I just thought it was cheesy and so not profesh.  So imagine my surprise when leopard-print items have slowly but surely started to show up in my closet.  Leopard flats here, a leopard belt there, maybe some leopard heels, oh and why not a leopard scarf... leopard skirt!  Actually, I got this skirt years ago and not because I loved the print but because I loved the pleated, kicky style of it.  It's also just oh so comfortable, what with its elastic waistband and all.  And any work wear item that allows me to comfortably eat a lot of tacos for lunch is right up my alley.

Coral Love

Paloma says...

Blazer: SheInside / Skirt: The Limited / Tank: H&M
Shoes: Jessica Simpson / Necklace: The Limited

This outfit just makes me feel good. I mean, who doesn't love a coral blazer made out of sweatshirt material?  So much more interesting than a basic black blazer.  Seriously.

Ruched and Ready

Karen says...

Dress: H&M / Shoes: Sole Society / Necklace: J.Crew Factory / Bag: Zara

Lunch with lovely Jamie today at stupid Soleto.  Just kidding, Soleto is OK, but there were no fries served with the steak sandwich special and they ran out of biscotti again.  You tell me how I'm supposed to get through lunch with all these deficiencies.

This dress is black with subtle white flecks, and ruched in all the right places.  As this photo has two filters on it (Camera+ Night and Instagram Sierra), it's hard to see that detail, but it's so helpful for a fitted dress because, hey, that's not my fat you're looking at, that section's supposed to be ruched!

I was also able to add other black accents - the black necklace, the leopard shoes.  Happy to see once again Paloma and I are matching in that regard!

Emerald Love

Paloma says....

Feeling lovely today in emerald green - Pantone Color of the Year 2013 - holla!

Blouse: Forever 21 (similar
Skirt: J.Crew
Earrings: J.Crew Factory (similar)

So I love J.Crew's No. 2 Pencil Skirts.  I have a handful but everytime I get a new one I ask why I ever buy anything else. They are great quality, great fit, a great assortment of colors and fabrics, and just all-around a perfect addition to a working girl's wardrobe.  This emerald green number that I bought on my recent J.Crew excursion with my mom is no exception.  I want it in every color of the rainbow.

Clean Silhouettes

Worlds collide!  Paloma at lunch with her hubby and Karen at lunch with Vi, and all four at... where else?  Figat7th.  Time for a photo.

Shirt: Target / Pants: J.Crew / Shoes: Jessica Simpson / Earrings: J.Crew Factory

Paloma says...

Oof.  Nearly a week without blogging.  We are getting terrible at this.  But fortunately, we are no less in-sync!  We couldn't believe how identical we were today; our lunch companions actually thought it was pretty hysterical.  Just goes to show, you can separate us by several city blocks, but you will never hinder our amazing fashion ESP!

Shirt: H&M / Pants: GAP / Shoes: Nine West / Bag: Zara / Necklace: H&M

Karen says...

Does it count as having worn it if you didn't blog it?  I totally wore these pants yesterday, haha!  But nobody knows that, except that I just said so.  Which I guess is kinda dumb.

But I got some new blue suede shoes which are simple and oh so comfortable.  As spring inexorably approaches, I'm starting to put color back into things.  I've been pretty drab and unbloggable lately, wearing lots of black to work.  (Like these pants.  Yesterday.)

When I wear the shirt again, I'll display how it splits in the back to reveal the second sheer layer.  Totally loving H&M right now.  This whole outfit is a study in the Westside Pavilion mall.

And last but not least, I had about twenty minutes of lunchtime awesomeness when Paloma got to meet Vi.  They had never worked together, and something tells me if that were the case we'd all have an employment team blast.  It's a lovely thing indeed when Vi watches us snapping blog shots like it's the most normal thing in the world.  I mean, we're all in this together, you know.  And hello we are dressed alike again, with no planning whatsoever to even meet up!  I shouldn't even be surprised anymore.
