Went M.I.A. again but this time for a good reason - a quick vacation to Cancun. Lovely. Back at it and prepping for three trials in a row --- huzzah.
This floral blouse from Forever 21 has paid for itself a thousand times over - its so cute, so versatile, and looks way more expensive than it was.
Wow I checked out for a minute there - work has been busy, per usual. I have posted on instagram, for those of you who follow us there. But here is a quick catch-up recap post for the ole blog.
Last week I busted out this navy lace pencil skirt which i LOVE, and which I only ever pair with neutrals. I know navy is a neutral, too, but why do I struggle to find colors to pair with it?? Adding to that is the fact that this skirt is lace which makes it feel even less neutral and thus more of a struggle for me to pair it with things. Anyway, went with burgundy this time and I think I like it....
Also last week, I took this incredibly glam bathroom shot in the middle of a loooong deposition. Love this orange sweater but rarely wear it. Loved it with the tweed skirt - though worn on the first day of Spring, this is quite the Autumn look....
This tried and true floral blouse must have cost me like $20 at Forever 21 a few years ago - and it has gotten some decent play in those years... love a good low cost per wear item...(oh, I have another great Forever 21 floral blouse that has gotten a lot of play too - see how I've worn that one over the years here).
See how I've worn it in the past below. In the meantime, here's how I wore it today - with a charcoal gray mini skirt that I'm not sure is really working with it. Would have preferred a camel colored skirt but that is something i do not have.
Hi! I keep telling myself I need to keep it positive around here - no more whining and griping all the damn time - but of course, when you are burning the candle at both ends on a near-constant basis, complaints do tend to abound. However, I got sick last week with what is possibly the worst cold I've ever had, and all other complaints seemed silly at that point. Seriously, why is it that we don't appreciate our health until we are under the weather?
Anyway, I am back in business for the most part today (running on DayQuil and coffee!), and though work is oppressive, I am not getting stressed because I am too busy celebrating the fact that I actually feel decent!
In outfit news, I am wearing a tried and true combo of neutrals - gray, white, and navy with my fave summer shoes. Also- this skirt is so cute because it has double side slits - wish I had gotten a decent picture of them; you can see better in this post from last Fall.
It's been a minute, sorry. Anyway, I'm back and I note that I'm in the exact same color combination that I wore in my last post. Clearly I like it... Had two depositions this morning in another city, and then grunt work in the office all afternoon. My exhaustion with this day is pretty evident on my face....
I realized as I got dressed this morning that I randomly remembered I have worn this top/cardigan combo once before on this here blog, four long years ago... (weird, how have I been blogging for four years??
It's a rainy Monday and I am trucking along with work, work, werkkkk....
(also, I posted a few weekend wear outfits on instagram just to mix things up a bit-- and also because i am trying to be better about getting out of the jeans/t-shirt weekend rut)....
Hello! I feel like I'm pretty consistently LOFT/The Limited with shoes from Asos these days. Speaking of which, now that The Limited is closed :( I need to find a new place to buy suits. I think its time for an upgrade, too. Not that The Limited suits aren't good, but think I need to invest in some higher quality pieces.... ideas?
My posting ratio is shameful - 1:15 at best. Meanwhile, bravissima to Paloma, lo, these many months, not just for her consistency but for killing it with her work chic literally day in, and day out. I miss you, Paloms!
Anyway, haven't posted at all which is weird because I missed the announcement that I am newly employed in Century City! Only, not so new anymore since it's been a few months. I miss DTLA something fierce - not the least of which is the occasional meetup with Paloma - but I've always wanted to work out here, and it's closer to home, so hooray for new chapters.
There have been definite changes to my style to sort of fit in with the decidedly Westside vibe around here. Still have to figure it out - is it the proximity to CAA? The fact that the beach is 12 miles closer? What? One thing is for sure - I am in my gray period. Getting caught up over the last three months, here are outfits typical from each and confirming my commitment to shades of gray.
Top: a holdover Zara tunic from DTLA days (and I love oversized looks!)
Skirt: basic assymetrical black pencil from Nordstrom (totally into the bias on one)
Boots: (somewhat visible) standard suede ankle wedges from Dolce Vita
Work never seems to let up these days and I'm starting to realize that this is just the way my life is. Sigh. Anyway, I wanted to blog today, but took this at 6pm and was feeling worn out and punchy and thus decided to pose like a tool. And then decided to post it because sometimes we need some levity. Changing the world here, people. Changing the world.
[Also - head to toe LOFT. I clearly have an obsession.]
I was oh-so proud of myself on Monday for wearing head to toe black and white and NOT pairing it with red shoes. Then, today, I put on my new b&w striped t-shirt and my (i know its too short) flippy black skirt and literally could think of no other possible shoe options besides...sigh...red. ugh. i wish i could quit you, red shoes.
Do I pretty much just come on this here blog and gripe about how oppressively busy I am? Yes? Sorry. But its true. Ah, well.
Wearing this BRIGHT skirt today that I got lots of compliments on. It was a nice pop of color on another gray rainy LA day... (love it!)
In other news, these cognac pumps have been absolute favorites of mine for years but they are legit falling apart. Like, I am pretty sure one of the heels is about to snap in half. I think I need to purchase a replacement, post-haste, because I am going to find myself hobbling on one heel in an awkward situation soon, just you watch..... (Perhaps the Sam Edelman ones linked below....hm)
After a long overdue vacation to Cabo San Lucas with my fam, I am back at it and already completely underwater with work (that's what happens when you put off all work for a week so you can sun and swim)... but at least the time off gave me some energy to do it all.
And after a week of sun and 80 degree weather, the cool, crisp days in LA (60 degrees - brr) were actually a welcome change.
Sporting a favorite color combo - gray and navy - and these new mules which I wasn't sure about at first but am now certain that I love.
