I look a little crazy eyes in this pic, but it was the best I was able to do today, unfortunately!

Same Dress, Different Day

Well, this probably isn't blog-worthy but here ya go - me wearing the same dress I wore a couple of weeks ago.  I changed it up with accessories, and this time photographed it with the jacket.  I wore this to court this morning because it is blazing hot and for some reason I couldn't get on board with wearing separates - a dress just seemed more breezy somehow.

Miami Vice

Boy oh boy am I glad I bought this skirt in three colors. It is divine.  Contemplating purchasing a few more colors before the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends in a few days and prices fly back up.  It's seriously perfect - stretchy, flattering, a perfect weight. I am going to have a hard time wearing any other pencil skirt that I own.  Except, of course, for my J.Crew No. 2 pencil skirt which is my other all time fave.
In other news, a co-worker told me I looked "very Miami" today - and I can't help but agree. I've got some vibrant colors AND leopard happening here.  Not exactly a quiet look.  Saving that for court tomorrow morning.

A simple sixties shift, a strand of pearls, and some white heels are my makeshift mod look for Monday.

So, can't decide if this is a good or bad thing, but Tamra Barney Judge of RHOC has been rocking this same necklace this season.

Sweater Dress: Zara Dress with Back Zip ($20, y'all!)
Pearls: Givenchy

Back to work after a fantastic weekend getaway to Disneyland with family.  After being a sweaty mess in sneakers and cutoffs for two days, it felt nice to dress prim and proper with this watercolor-print skirt and some pearls.
This skirt has been in my closet forever (OK, 6 years), and even though I don't wear it that often, when I do I realize how much I continue to adore it!

Boring post, boring outfit! I didn't even wear jewelry today!

Summer Stock

The best time to throw down a quick post is when you're waiting for 400 pages to finish printing.

Nary a thought in my head this morn on what to wear.  It was just, oh, here's this top, here's this skirt, oh fine.  Oh, maybe it needs a necklace.  How about this one.  Oh fine.  It did occur to me that white, coral, and strappy sandals are stock summer items, so better mix them together while I still can.

And then, I had to visit a vintage shop on my lunch because I am attending a "surrealist ball" tomorrow inspired by the 1972 Rothschild party for the illuminati.  Suffice it to say, I really haven't a thing to wear for that.  (Still don't.)

As Intended

When I bought these items at J.Crew in February, I envisioned wearing them together because I love this green with black and white. However, for whatever reason that hasn't come to fruition....until today. How exciting! (not really).  Seriously, though, I need this skirt in every single color, please and thank you.

I may have mentioned this last time I wore this skirt - but I totally feel like a creamsicle. It's all good though - nothing screams "summer" like a popsicle!

Paloma's July 2014 Purchases

I had high hopes about my ability to do a monthly round-up of purchases but unfortunately work got so busy these last few months that I managed to skip May & June (see April round-up here).  Anyway, I really like this idea so I am determined to continue on. Without further adieu, here is what I added to my wardrobe in July!

July purchases

(Clockwise from top left):

1) Zella "Live-In" Reversible Leggings ($33).  So clearly I hit up the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year.  I shopped online (as I always do) so have not been able to try on the Nordys purchases yet.  However the things I purchased are all items that come highly recommended and have great reviews.  First, these leggings, as recommended repeatedly by Belle at one of my long time fav blogs, Capitol Hill Style.  I've been needing good leggings for throwing on in the evenings and weekends (because lets be honest, I am a workout-clothes-only type of girl on the weekends).  I am super hopeful that these will be great - so many leggings I have bought in the past have been a fail, largely because they are usually too thin (likely also because I buy them for $9 at F21).

2) Target (Mossimo) Tank ($8). I have a really time going to Target without purchasing an $8 tank top.  I live in these things on the weekends. And this time things got crazy and I bought a printed one!

3), 4), and 5) Halogen Seamed Pencil Skirt ($46 each). Ok, so clearly I am feeling confident about this skirt being amaze.  I don't know if I'm gaining weight or my body is just changing as I age, but somehow virtually none of my pencil skirts feel comfortable anymore.  It's pretty damn depressing, considering what a large pencil skirt wardrobe I have.  Anyhoo - I decided it was definitely time to purchase some new ones. This Halogen skirt is beloved by Kat and all the commenters on Corporette.  And Belle also chimed in last week on what a great skirt it is.  So of course, I purchased it in three colors. Fingers crossed!

So my total purchases for this month came to $179. Not too shabby!

Florals and Flurry

Posting in a flurry as I run out for the evening - I have been such a bad blogger lately, but this is largely because I've been working my little tail off! Things might be slowing down now so I hope to post with more frequency and maybe even something more interesting?

In the meantime, here is me, an office door, a pencil skirt/cardigan/blouse combo, and a weird facial expression:

Classics Friday

Nothing like a deposition to ruin Casual Friday.  Unfortunately, a proper lawyer simply cannot show up to a deposition in jeans. Darn.

I've been feeling pretty uninspired, clothes-wise this week for some reason, and am kind of craving classic and well-fitted work wear in favor of anything too trendy.  So of course, I opted for a simple black shift dress, black pumps, and pearls for today.  I threw a gray blazer on over this for an extra layer of "Lawyer" at the deposition.

Happy Friday all!

Devil's in the Details

I had some OK outfits this week, but just felt icky or not cute or was busy or all of the freaking above.  But I am less any of those things on casual Friday.

I was thinking the skirt length was a bit bold here, even for Friday, but because it's summer, I've been seeing varying skirt lengths at the office, which gave me courage.  And then, if you spend most of it inside, who the heck would know.

(Except when we snuck out to take a few pictures.)

(Oh, and I bought a few things from J.Crew Factory's mega-clearance last week.)

just breathe.

Its been a crazy last few weeks at work, and it only seems to get crazier as the days progress. Has me longing for those days when I was low on work and was complaining "I need more work!" So it goes with attorneys who are slaves to the billable hour.

Today I am wearing an outfit ripped off directly from Veronika of Veronika's Blushing. I adore her style, and I always love seeing another working mom out in the blogging world!

throw it on and go

I am at a loss for what to say about this outfit since it was simply a result of grabbing a few items in my closet and rushing out the door. Not much thought put into it.  I love these black jeans but unfortunately they have faded so they don't look as lovely as they once did. Tips for keeping black jeans nice and black?

Lunching in Dresses

Together again!  And both in sleeveless dresses - one in classic black and one that is oh-so-bright.  We reunited today for a co-worker's birthday lunch (funnily, we had said lunch at the exact same spot as we did for his birthday last year, and took our pics in front of the same building... a tradition!)

Dress: Ted Baker
Shoes: Julianne Hough x Sole Society
Bag: some sample sale in San Diego in 2004

Karen says....

It's not every day we do these co-worker lunches, it's not every day I get to see Paloma!  (Once upon a time, it was every day.  Sniff.)  Also, it's 82 degrees out.  These are the excuses I give myself to wear a dress that might be a leetle bit too short for work.

Still, it's a fave dress for its perfect fit and simplicity, and the cinched bow waist.  Paloma pointed out this might have been one of my 30 for 30 picks.  My reply was about how traumatic those 30 days were.  But I feel it coming again as fall approaches...

As for the mint shoes, they were hiding in my closet all spring, and that was inexcusable!

Dress: Stitch Fix
Bag: Target
Necklace: gift

Paloma says....

I've been feeling a bet blah lately about my clothes; largely because I am up just a few lbs so nothing fits like it used to.  But leave it to Stitch Fix to send this gorgeous fuschia wrap dress my way and snap me right out of that funk! Who doesn't love a wrap dress? And who doesn't love fuschia?? Also, totally channeling a favorite SJP look circa 2007 with the pop of turquoise jewelry!

Look, we really were together! :)
(Thanks, Vi!)

Cropped and Pleated

Taking a quick pic after a long day results in - not the best pic.  For example, the detail of this crop top I love (and have IG'd a bit already) is in its crochet, crop, and flare - all of which is a bit lost here.  But it worked in this outfit, worn with a neutral tank underneath and a simple pleated black skirt.  I liked the look of the long strand of pearls - again, sort of washed out in the photo.  Ah, what can you do when you're taking three-second photos as you're running out of the office!

Editor Chic Envy

So, I'm sure a lot of lady lawyers can relate to me on this one.  I dress for my job, because I have no choice.  And the workwear for this job is mostly suits, collared shirts, pencil skirts, and the occasional cardigan.  Always in high heels.  I admit, that ain't bad.

But -  I also "dress for the job I want to have," which is normally recited as the tried-and-true guideline for inevitable ascension of the corporate ladder.  I think the job I want to have - just like every other girl - is Anna Wintour's.  It's something I imagine as "editor chic," the kind of clothes you'd wear standing around an editorial office dissecting copy and layouts and making terribly important style decisions, and you know, just handling biz.  Like a boss.  But in like a casual, Kate Hepburn kind of way.

This skirt screamed editor chic to me, and so by mandate it had to be paired with a breathable, white collared shirt.  Also, I am addicted to these heels.  Also, I am apparently addicted to Zara.

Happy Monday! After a weekend of fun, and way too much eating and drinking, I got a whopping 9 hours of sleep last night, had a green juice (kale, cucumber, celery, ginger) this morning, and am feeling amazing and energized! Hopefully that will also make me more focused, since I have heaps of work on my desk.  To help me in that effort I dressed very lawyerly today (except of course I had to add red shoes to make it more interesting).

You guys. I am the only person not paying attention to the World Cup.  But I do know that the USA is playing today, as evidenced by the fact that 99.9% of the people who work in my office are currently crammed into a conference room watching it.  Karen is, of course, watching in style from the classy joint downstairs in her building.

Me? Oh, I am drafting discovery responses. Go 'Merica!

Also, this is likely going to be my last post for the week, as I am off for a family vacation over the 4th of July (also my daughter's 2nd birthday - which by the way is an awesome birthday I've decided)... but might pop up on instagram
