This is what I think of as a "duh" outfit - why don't I do this all the time? Why didn't I think of this before? Anything sleeveless is made better with a blue or white shirt underneath. It is ridiculously easy and everyone appreciates the clean simplicity. One of our stylish lady partners told me today, "That's something I would wear." I took this as the highest compliment.
And I debated it this morning, but I did resist the temptation to top it with some chunky statement necklace. Eh, no need. Real simple.
I love wearing button down shits underneath my dresses, and this outfit is proof that it can work beautifully even in a corporate environment. As a potential lawyer myself, mind if I ask whether your dress code is the norm in the industry?

DeleteI'm happy to answer anything, especially about clothes. I would say the above outfit is the "norm" in the industry - but a lot of other outfits I've posted may not be, and it really depend on your office environment. In an ideal world, lawyers wear suits to work every day, and lady lawyers will wear a crisp shirt and skirt. But the truth is, a law office is like any other industry and it really does depend on a specific office. I have envied some colleagues of mine who work in a law office literally by the beach and so they wear jeans every day. There are smaller offices where the lawyers go casual, short of flip flops. And then there are traditional law offices where that business dress really is required.
Where my office is concerned, we're down the middle. We have very casual Fridays, and the rest of the time, you have to use your discretion to look nice. My office isn't one where the men are required to wear ties every day, but I have worked in one that has. The only constant is that you must look your lawyerly best when appearing in court. (Not that everybody does.)
Good luck on your road to lawyerland! Hard work, but the clothes (almost) make it worth it... :-)
