Second Chances

Just another day, another outfit. When I put this shirt on this morning I decided that I don't like it all that much and that this would probably be its last outing before going in the goodwill pile.  However, after wearing it all day and now seeing it photographed, I think I actually might like it?  Maybe I will give it a second chance, after all.  Big time life choices, people. Big time.

New Favorites

These shoes have quickly become my favorites.  I literally reach for them every day and then have to tell myself "no, Paloma, lets try something else today."  Clearly today I did not listen to myself.  But honestly, I've decided I like the look of a cognac shoe better than the typical nude/taupe shoe. Its still a neutral but looks more professional somehow.  And this particular shoe has such a great shape and is surprisingly very comfy! I have only found one place that sells them (DSW - link below - run, dont walk!), and I am considering stocking up on a few pairs for backup because i wear through shoes like nobody's business.

Pinned It, Wore It

Paloma and I are big Pinterest users (although, curating our own Pinterest has taken a back seat to the blog which, in turn, has taken a back seat to the IG which, in turn, takes a back seat to that other thing called work) and routinely seek inspiration in those wonderfully composed outfits populating our feed.  As my recent posts have shown, I am obsessed with black everything lately, and have subconsciously worn black in my every day for nearly two months.  (Before this, the obsession was burgundy/marsala.)  When I saw the simplicity of this look, I couldn't wait to try it.

And, indeed, after my Nixon watch arrived, today was the day.  I even have those pins in my hair!

Sweater: H&M (splurgy similar)
Pants: Madewell (or these)
Heels: Zara (probably great in a kitten heel as well)
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Moto Bucket (via Rent the Runway)
Watch: Nixon

Of course, this is not an Alexander Wang bag but a Rebecca Minkoff bucket bag courtesy of Rent the Runway.  This is mine for at least the month!  I'm already so into it.  The only thing I switched out were the flats - though, I know, for $25 I could score those across the street at H&M - but I need to wear a heel, anyway.  So, thank you, Pinterest!  Serving endless inspiration for the beleaguered working girl.

Pants, please.

Putting aside the fact that this outfit is about as boring as it gets (I needed to add a scarf or something, geez!), I am actually pretty excited about these pants.  In the early part of my professional career, I wore only flared slacks.  Nothing else would do.  Then, as flared pants seemed to fall out of fashion,  I went for bootcut instead.  And it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I finally branched out and bought some skinny dress pants (which I still don't feel 100% comfortable in). But today I am embarking on a whole new era of pants (haha, so serious) -- straight leg!!

Seriously though, these pants are great.  Of course they are from The Limited, as are basically all of my work pants, and they are the perfect midway point between bootcut and skinny.  Somehow I think the slightly wider opening of the leg is more flattering for those of us who are more pear shaped. Not to mention they are stretchy, which is pretty much the best thing ever.

Simple is Better

First of all, a big thank you to those of you who commented on my whiny post yesterday.  It was kind of an unexpected little vent that I did, but it was also honest.  It was also unexpected - and really quite flattering - to have you lovely readers reassure me that just because we don't have the slickest, glossiest, most professional and fashionable blog in the world doesn't mean we don't deserve our own little spot on the internet.

I looked back at our first post ever today (because I remembered that I wore this very same shirt in that post), which included the following statement: "This is not a fashion blog!  It's just a safe place for us to dump our daily outfits."  So there you have it! Maybe I just need to remember that our original mission statement here was not to be crazy fashionistas with Vogue-worthy photo shoots, but to simply catalog our outfits.  I know that I am inspired by bloggers everyday, and I definitely gravitate towards those who have a simple and classic style that I can interpret into my own daily wardrobe. If I can do that same thing for other folks, well... then I am a happy camper.  We shall see what the future holds....

In the meantime, here is an outfit.

Monday Musings

I will be honest, I have not been feeling up to blogging lately (in case you couldn't tell by my sporadic absences from the blog these days).  I guess I just wish I had more time to devote to it in order to make it pretty and nice...and, I don't know, maybe actually have some decent pictures that aren't blurry and taken in a rush in my office between tasks?  I'm trying to decide whether to keep going and hope the joy comes back, or to take a break and see if I miss it.  I have to be honest with myself that this blog is never going to be as fancy and glossy and sharp as some others out there - between two kids and a demanding job, I do not have time to devote to it, unfortunately.  Anyway, there's my randomly personal musings for Monday...sorry for the brain dump, guess it was on my mind!

The outfit is pretty much as basic as it gets - white blouse, comfy pencil skirt, and leopard pumps (a.k.a. The Best Closet Addition Ever).

Urban Cowgirl

Hey, it's hot today, so I think I'll wear a denim babydoll dress and some high ankle boots.  Because that's what lawyers do on Fridays, right?

Oh, it's not?  Well, I don't care!  It's really hot today!

(And, of course I had a cardigan on in the office.)

Dress: Hardwear (but American Apparel has a cute one, too)
Boots: Zara (these rag & bone ones are on sale)
Bag: Clare V (is everything I have on sale?)

Back At It

It was so refreshing and lovely to have such a nice picture yesterday - taken outside even! Kinda depressing to be back at my old behind-the-door pose.  Oh well, c'est la vie. At least I chose an outfit that was almost as depressing as the picture.  I kid, sorta.... the outfit isn't awful, but I actually put zero thought into it.  All I cared about was being comfortable (a common theme with me, I know).  Especially since I accidentally set my alarm to "p.m." last night and woke up late, so there were exactly no extra minutes to think about my ensemble.

Back in Black

Together again!  Only towards the end of lunch today did we realize that we have not gotten together in over three months.  As always, so wonderful to catch up.  And do what we do...

Karen says...

There are not enough hours in the day!  Had court this morning in San Bernardino, and here I am not quite recovered from the morning drive to and from.  Bought a new suit jacket to go with all my Theory pants, and though the pants are from a few years ago, as black suits go, it's all sleek and easy.

Of course I must say it was wonderful to have Paloma back in my lunching life, and back behind the camera.  It all comes together when she's around.

Paloma says...

I think being busy makes me reach for black and white - its just so easy. And I also think that I have too many black and white skirts, as previously discussed.  However, this one is made out of t-shirt material, which makes it incredibly easy to wear.

Was so lovely to see my blogging partner in crime, and I am hereby vowing that we will get together more often! Besides the fact that it is always awesome to spend an hour gabbing away with her, its also awesome to have a picture of myself somewhere other than behind my office door.
