Busy And It Shows

We had to call and emergency lunch session today.  It has just been too long.

Skirt: Madewell / Shirt: J.Crew Factory / Cardigan: Forever 21
Bag: Zara / Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell

Karen says...

Not too crazy about my outfit today, but not displeased with it either.  It's just my effort to mix and match more, rather than my eternal pencil skirt + sleeveless blouse combo.  My routine in the mornings is now just grabbing crap out of the closet and mixing it together.  When I don't hate it completely, I'm good to go.

Also, I got a new Babyliss 1 1/4" curling iron, which is the perfect size for the loose beachy waves.  I had been working with a 1 1/2" for some time, which was OK for longer hair.  As you can see, the 1 1/4" is pretty handy on shoulder-length hair.

Oh, and yes we were able to have lunch and coffee after at Bottega Louie!  How nice it is to have more than 20 minutes to complain about Juan Pablo with Paloma.

Skirt: LOFT / Shirt: J.Crew / Sweater: The Limited / Shoes: Sole Society / Bag: The Limited

Paloma says...

I am without words today.  And I am wearing the tried and true black/white/red/stripe combo. All's good.

Skirting the Issue

Forced away from our desks and many responsibilities to showcase our skirts and separates.

Shirt: Express / Skirt: Target / Cardigan: The Limited / Shoes: Enzo Angiolini / Bag: The Limited

Paloma says...

Loving the color combo of my ensemble today - which was directly pinched from a look I pinned on good ole Pinterest (here).  Also loving feeling well enough today to trudge a few blocks for a quick meet up with Karen. Good day, all around.

Shirt: Halogen / Skirt: S.Y.L.K. / Shoes: Vince Camuto / Belt: Cole Haan / Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

Karen says...

Basic is best, yes?  Sometimes I just feel better in as simple of an outfit as possible.

I felt crushed after learning of - SPOILER ALERT - Yuna Kim's silver medal finish.  So I had to ask Paloma, please, can we meet up today?  Not only did the lovely lady buy me a cup of coffee, but she took this photo of me.  And she was well-dressed doing it.

Necklace: Forever 21

Paloma was also a big fan of this less-than-$10 necklace from everyone's favorite discount fashion house.

Bloggable Black

Karen says...

Meanwhile, across town...

Shirt: Balenciaga / Skirt: Erin Featherston for Target / Tights: Banana Republic

Very impressed with Paloma's ability to get a comprehensive selfy like that, I mean it's not just the miracle of TimerCam but also finding the right levels to prop your phone up, get the right angle... sigh.  I won't belabor the point, but I miss our easy co-photographer days.

However, this was a very bloggable outfit because it was just randomly sourced black layers, a go-to concept I love.  The details, like the knit of the sweater, the satin texture of the skirt, and the Swiss dots on the tights, are not discernible from this murky photo.  It was topped with a Banana Republic sweater and the usual Zara boots, but this is the basic, with my favorite fit Balenciaga sweater bought on consignment.  Note: I love anchors.

Oh yes, and the cropped hair!  Chopped it all off.  Had to do it.

Bleh

Paloma says....

Does my face convey how crummy I feel today?  Allergies? Cold? Whatever, I just wish I could take my head off.  Thank goodness for cute clothes that are also comfortable.

Shirt: Target / Cardigan: Target / Pants: Express / Shoes: Enzo Angiolini

Love this shirt from Target and want it in every color. That is all.

Back At It...

Paloma says...

Yes, back at it today, but without much enthusiasm.  I had a lovely four-day weekend in New Mexico with my family, and am reluctantly back at the grind today with piles  (and piles and piles and piles) of work.  Fortunately, my gorgeous mom took me on a shopping excursion to J.Crew over the weekend, so I've got lots of fun goodies to play dress up with, including The Best Jeans Ever, which will be featured Friday.

Sweater: J.Crew / Skirt: The Limited / Shoes: Sole Society / Necklace: The Limited

Well looky here! I got another Tippi sweater!  Man, I love this sweater.  I now own it in three colors, and look forward to adding every single other color they make.  May take a few years, but I'm a woman on a mission.  Was not sure about this turquoise color, which is something I wear often in jewelry (I am from New Mexico, after all), but rarely in clothes.  I branched out a bit here, and I think I'm liking it!

I Heart Today

Karen says...

Paloma is OOT so I'm the lonely heart blogger today...

Shirt: Joie / Leggings: James Perse / Boots: Frye / Sweatshirt: Signorelli
Scarf: Topshop / Bag: Zara / Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters

Lots to love about today: Valentine's Day, a Friday, and the eve of a three-day weekend.  Unfortunately, I have a couple of work obligations on Monday, but doing them on your own time is much preferred indeed.

Did not give a whole lotta thought to a themed outfit, but grabbed two things nearby that had hearts on them. Reading the label breakdown, it sounds like one big visit to the mall.  Love my new Frye moto boots, extremely simple, goes with everything, and can walk in them for miles.  They will last years, as all Frye boots do.

Hair is up today because it's getting cut this afternoon, so why style it?  And the best accessory today is the box of Bottega Louie macarons in my left hand, freshly purchased and ready for gifting.

Happy Heart Day! xo

Real Simple

Karen says...

"How come you don't blog anymore?" asked Vi, my style-savvy co-worker and erstwhile blog photographer.

I confessed that I've grown hesitant in chasing down her or the other one for a daily picture.  But given her very worthwhile query, I seized the window of opportunity and asked her to snap one for me today.  So, many thanks, Vi!

Shirt: Forever 21 / Dress: Theory / Shoes: Zara / Bag: Zara

This is what I think of as a "duh" outfit - why don't I do this all the time?  Why didn't I think of this before?  Anything sleeveless is made better with a blue or white shirt underneath.  It is ridiculously easy and everyone appreciates the clean simplicity.  One of our stylish lady partners told me today, "That's something I would wear."  I took this as the highest compliment.

And I debated it this morning, but I did resist the temptation to top it with some chunky statement necklace.  Eh, no need.  Real simple.

Nothing But the Best

... guaranteed.  The was the sign we found ourselves in front of on a once-regular now-rare Target meetup.  Once again, in fashion sync with basic blacks for hump day.  Never enough time in the world to catch up!

Shirt: Joie Soft / Blouse: Patterson J. Kincaid / Pants: Alice + Olivia
Bag: Zara / Shoes: Sole Society

Karen says...

Here I am in a marionette's pose with a freakishly large left hand.  My all-black today was from spending lots of time on Pinterest yesterday, admiring all the dark colors and black layering for fall 2014, images from NYFW.  I realize that a lot can be done experimenting with the many black items in a closet.

And the best 3:00 pm accessory - a (not dumb) Starbizzle iced coffee.

Shirt: Target / Skirt: The Limited / Earrings: Banana Republic / Shoes: Target

Paloma says...

While I am happy that I got to meet up with Karen for coffee and a pic, I'm pretty bummed that I forgot to bring my cute leopard shoes and thus my blog pic captures instead the ugly shoes I stash under my desk for when I need to make a trek further than two blocks during the work day.  So, just imagine my leopard wedges instead, OK?  Thanks. :)

Gettin' it Done

Paloma says...

Here's what I wore Monday and Tuesday, people!

I'm a busy bee this week as I get through a mountain of work and prepare to go out of town on Friday - but hey, at least I got dressed!

Let's take a closer look...

Monday
Cardigan: Banana Republic / Sweater: LOFT / Pants: The Limited
Shoes: Jessica Simpson / Necklace: Forever 21

This was totally an "I'm too tired to care" outfit, and it shows.  Not a fan, but hey, I was comfy!

Tuesday
Shirt: J.Crew / Skirt: J.Crew Factory / Necklace: J.Crew / Shoes: Banana Republic

This, on the other hand, I love.  Probably because I'm almost head-to-toe J.Crew.  Which probably hasn't happened since 1997 when I was in high school and shopped there exclusively.  Of course, that's back when J.Crew was reasonably priced...

Indoor/Outdoor

Karen says...

Not doing too well lately with the blogging and the selfies.  I actually still dress as if I might post my outfit but when the day drags on, I'm like, oh, hey, never mind.  I think about my tired face forcing a smile and I lose motivation.  And then I go on our blog and see that Paloma, across town, is keeping at it in full sartorial force, and I am inspired again.

Well, that said, I selfied it up here in my tiny law cell, and with limited angles, I could only eek out these awkward poses.  But enjoy!  They are filtered and high-deffed to make the most of a rainy day indoor situation.

Blouse: Halogen / Skirt: Joie / Pearls: Principessa Venice
Shoes (not pictured): Zara / Headband: L. Erickson

And because of my inconsistent blogging of late, here's my addendum from this past weekend, on a day when I'm hanging outdoors for a change.  Not workwear at all, but what this worker likes to wear.  Photo courtesy of my wonderful friend Emily.

Boring Ole Me

Paloma says...

I'm feeling a little lonely around here - where has Karen gone? :( Makes me sad for the good ole days of blogging.

Cardigan: J.Crew / T-Shirt: The Limited / Skirt: Target / Tights: Target / Shoes: Jessica Simpson

Anyway, here's boring ole me - again. Today dressed for the gray rainy weather (yay!) in blues, grays, and blacks.  With a pop of color in the form of my red coat and purple scarf hanging behind my door.

Same Shizz, Different Day

Paloma says....

Major lack of creativity today. But since I have a new phone I am enjoying taking selfies!
Sweater: J.Crew / Pants: The Limited / Shoes: Jessica Simpson / Necklace: Forever 21

[Insert attempt at witty commentary here - Tired; sick kid kept me up all night; ponytail; favorite sweater and stretchy pants; busy; leopard shoes make everything better].

Doubling Up

Paloma says...

I finally got an iPhone.  I have resisted for years and proclaimed that my Android was "just fine, thank you very much."  Boy, was I wrong.  The iPhone rocks.  And as a result of my spending way too much time playing with my new toy and all the amazing apps I have purchased (whoops - 99 cents per app adds up fast), I have these lovely split screen shots of my outfits from Monday and Tuesday of this week. Lucky you!

Sweater: The Limited / Shirt: Forever 21 / Pants: The Limited
Shoes: Banana Republic / Scarf: gift from mom
Earrings (totally not pictured but awesome - a gold "E" and a gold "V"
for my daughters' names): Letters from LA

This was what I wore on Monday, after a long weekend of fun (and too much eating and drinking) with my beloved Maggie and her hub and doggie, who came to stay.  It was a great outfit for a tired Monday when all I wanted was to be in PJs.

I love this scarf and don't know why it took me so long to wear it!  Particularly love it against stripes.  But let's be honest, I love anything with stripes.  In fact, it took every ounce of willpower in me not to buy a lovely $80 striped Splendid tee this weekend from my fave local boutique, Letters from LA.  I did manage to resist, but you'd better believe I am still thinking about that damn shirt.

Cardigan: The Limited / Blouse: Forever 21 / Skirt: J.Crew / Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Scarf: gift / Necklace: Melrose Trading Post find

And here's Tuesday's look - both with and without scarf.  How exciting!  Loving that it's finally cold enough to wear tights.  Also loving the look of sheer black tights as opposed to opaque which have been pretty much all I've worn in recent years.  Also loving infinity scarves.  Also loving Buzzfeed quizzes on Facebook, which are so lame they are awesome.  Also loving Taco Bell.

OK, that got weird.
